Paris Saint-Germain reportedly emerges as the winning destination to sign Brazilian rising star Gabriel Moscardo, despite significant interest from Premier League clubs. Initially, reports suggested that Chelsea held the lead in the race to secure the 18-year-old talent from Corinthians. Other clubs such as Arsenal, Liverpool, and Barcelona had also shown interest in the player.
However, PSG made a decisive move and appears to have successfully secured Moscardo’s services. Moscardo had previously mentioned in an interview last month that Chelsea had made an approach for him, stating, “There was a proposal from Chelsea months ago, but I talk a lot with my agent and my parents, and they try to give me information.” He further expressed his commitment to focusing on his current season’s end and hinted at positive developments ahead.
Recently called up to the Brazil U23 side, Moscardo showcased his abilities in the Brazilian league, featuring in 18 games and netting one goal as Corinthians finished 13th in the standings. After the conclusion of the Brazilian season earlier this month, Moscardo is presently on a break.
Corinthians president Augusto Melo confirmed Moscardo’s decision to join PSG in a recent interview with Radio Bandeirantes, quoted by Foot Mercato. Melo mentioned, “Unfortunately, the cycle has come to an end, his mind is elsewhere, we gave him the freedom to choose, may he be happy. He’s going to Paris.”
It’s worth noting that Chelsea made significant Brazilian signings in 2023, including highly-rated Andrey Santos from Vasco da Gama for £16 million.
