Kieron Pollard, the former captain of the West Indies limited-overs team, has been named the assistant coach for the England men’s cricket team participating in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. The tournament is scheduled to be held in the Caribbean and USA, and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) anticipates leveraging Pollard’s extensive experience to their advantage.
This move echoes the ECB’s prior strategy before the T20 World Cup in Australia, where they enlisted Michael Hussey. The former Australian player’s contribution significantly impacted England’s success, culminating in their second T20 World Cup win.
Pollard boasts an impressive T20 career, having played extensively in various franchise leagues worldwide. His record of 101 T20 Internationals showcases 1,569 runs scored at a strike rate of 135.18. Notably, he stands among the select few who have hit six sixes in an over in this format.
Additionally, Pollard led the Trinbago Knight Riders to victory in the CPL 2020 final and played a pivotal role in Mumbai Indians’ five IPL title triumphs. Renowned for his exceptional fielding, Pollard presently serves as the batting coach for the Mumbai Indians.
