Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) emerged triumphant in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 Final, securing their maiden title with a dominant 8-wicket win over Delhi Capitals (DC). The final, held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, witnessed an enthralling showdown between the two teams.
Batting first, Delhi Capitals faced a batting collapse, managing to score only 113 runs before being bowled out. Despite a strong start led by Shafali Verma’s aggressive batting, DC faltered against RCB’s disciplined bowling attack, particularly the spin duo of Shreyanka Patil and Sophie Molineux.
In response, Royal Challengers Bangalore chased down the target comfortably, reaching 114 runs with three balls to spare. RCB’s openers, led by captain Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine, laid a solid foundation for the team’s victory with a composed batting display.
Following the match, RCB’s captain, Smriti Mandhana, expressed her pride in the team’s achievement, highlighting the significance of the win for the franchise. Despite the disappointment of failing to clinch the title, DC’s captain, Meg Lanning, acknowledged RCB’s outstanding performance and the unpredictability of cricket.
Individual awards were presented to standout performers of the tournament, with Ellyse Perry receiving the Orange Cap for scoring the most runs, Shreyanka Patil claiming the Purple Cap for taking the most wickets, and Sophie Molineux being named the Player of the Match for her impactful performance in the final.
Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar also extended his congratulations to the victorious RCB, tweeting:
